Gem, Mineral, and Fossil Show Monroe Wi

Badger Lapidary & Geological Society, 45th Annual, Rock, Gem, Mineral, & Fossil Show 

Dates: Saturday March 28th & Sunday March 29th 2015

Hours: 9am-5pm Sat & Sun

Location: Monroe Senior High School, 1600 26th St., Monroe, WI 53566.

Description: Ten dealers, excellent speakers, many beautiful club displays, fluorescent mineral tent, lapidary demonstrations, club sales table, hourly door prizes, educational films. 
Activities for kids: Fishpond, spinner game, scavenger hunt, fossil casting, and roving rock wizard. 
Food: Full Menu. 
Free Show - Free-will donation and free parking.

Shamrocks or fake minerals and gems will be the topic of the Northwest Illinois Rock Club program, Thursday, March 19th at 7pm.  

Wear some GREEN if you like.

Guest speaker Dave Rice, from the Rock River Valley Gem and Mineral Society of Rockford will discuss naturally occurring materials such as diamonds, alexandrite, coral, emeralds, and out-and-out fakes such as faux pearls and dyed materials.  

He will also explain the use of materials that have no natural counterpart such as Fordite, Rainbow Calsilica, Gold Stone and Victoria Stone.  Information of fakes will include how to identify fake vs. the natural stone.  Samples of real and fake stones will be available for examination.

The program will be held at Bethany United Church of Christ, 2341 W. Stephenson, Freeport.
